Fitness professionals SUCK!
It is really crazy..
There are some GREAT fitness professionals who LOVE what they do and appreciate what they do..
Some of them, like me, cannot believe this is the life they lead...
Helping people...
making them feel good about themselves...
Helping them become better people both physically and mentally..
THEN..
Then there are the jerks!
The ones who think they rule the world because of their degrees and all their freaking letters after their names...
In reality..
They know JACK!
JACK SHIT!
They use these big words to impress you (not me, that's for sure)..
They try to convince you that it is OK for a 10 or an 11 year old to perform a deadlift and clean and press, because hey..
"they are going to have to do it in college anyway"..
What morons!
Overall, the industry is getting away from this ridiculous 'power lifting' style that, believe it or not, some fit pro's think is the 'right' way to help people....
YEAH RIGHT!
Proof..
I have HUNDREDS of athletes who have achieved unrealistic results WITHOUT the use of Olympic style lifting. This has lead to high school and college coaches eliminating this crap from their programs..
Now I know there will be some jackasses (fit pro's) responding to this and want to mention progression and all that other crap!
SAVE IT for Mr. Olympia!
There IS another way to train and some of us are smart enough to go with it...
These guys / gals can stay buried in their textbooks and 'think' they have the answers, but can't think for themselves or try to figure out how we REALLY function as a being.
For the doubters..
Here is just one testimonial that I received out of the blue yesterday:
"Barry,
I have recently purchased your volleyball training video. WE LOVE IT!!! I went through the video several times myself and then last week my team and I started with your training techniques. At the beginning, before any training we measured our standing-jump height, then after 3 and then again after 5 sessions we measured again. They continue to increase in jump height!!!!!! Our average increase has been about 4 1/2 inches. One girl increased 9 INCHES!!!!! I have two teams going through this. I am a coach at a very small private Christian school. In the past our sporting program has been very weak. But, the JH and Varsity volleyball teams are excited and they are having a blast as they are increasing their strength and balance. I just want to say thank you for offering such a wonderful program at such a reasonable price. It definitely has had DRAMATIC results in a very short time!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you."

OK..how about another that I also received yesterday:
I just wanted to say "thank you so much Barry" for the "scholarship" for training at my Aunt Susie's camp last week- she told me. I had more of a blast at that camp than any other I had so far.... thanks again... just got a check-up today at my doctor and I am now 118 pounds 5 foot 7 1/4 inches tall at 13, and thanks to you am jumping much higher than I ever would have thought, can now touch my toes as my hamstrings are stretched FINALLY! and can put my legs totally against the wall flush with my backside to stretch. I could never do that before! And yes, you can use these words if you want elsewhere!

Who's to blame?
Are you accountable?
Well known fitness professional and my very good friend Ryan Lee, sent out an email last week.
It was a video clip of him blowing apart some common fitness myths as well as promoting his newest product, Body Bot.
While I was listening he said a something that really caught my attention.
He said 'I'm not saying that these myths are to blame for you being overweight, that is your fault.'
It hit me how this is something you just don't ever hear anyone say and for several reasons that I can think of. You don't want to make someone feel bad or offend them for being the biggest reason.
But I thought about it and realized that this should not be offensive. Our weight and fitness level is a direct reflection of the choices we make and it's that simple. Why blame misinformation, or work, or the kids, or stress or being tired, or not having time to cook or any of the other things we blame. It can be a very positive thing, I think, to put the responsibility on ourselves. It is empowering.
When we blame things outside of ourselves we are giving up our power to take action and change things. That should be more offensive than hearing someone say 'it's your fault'. Being accountable for our health and fitness, instead of looking outward for answers (or excuses), is the best thing we can do for ourselves.

Sick to my stomach
Yes..that is exactly how I am feeling right now....
This is MY blog and I am sounding off!
After signing on to my laptop this morning I noticed a headline that stuck out like a sore thumb to me - "AP Exclusive: 2 beef processors cited for humane violations "
If you have no care for the welfare or cruelty to animals, ALL ANIMALS, then there is no need to read on....
or if you really don't want to know what is happening in slaughterhouses then DO NOT read the article that was taken from Yahoo Homepage.
The link for the above is HERE....
While you read it THINK about what these animals are doing. They are doing their best NOT to be tortured in a matter of seconds and have their lives BRUTALLY taken away for two ridiculous reasons:
1) Money
2) Human consumption
Unlike what many people believe ALL animals have a thought process and have feelings. Your dog, your cat, your bird, your gold fish, your ferret...ALL ANIMALS can see and feel pain.
These cattle are standing in line like we do at a cash register, but their waiting is much different.
They can see what is happening ahead of them....they can feel what is going to take place...their anxiety is up...they are panicking and all they want to do is run away. They are thinking and feeling.
As I write this blog there have been over 16,000 cattle in the US who's life has been BRUTALLY taken away for ridiculous reasons. It is so sad that mankind is responsible for this senseless act and that many feel it is just fine to do so.
If it is OK according to many, then I suggest we have slaughterhouses in the malls and in cities for all to see. It is a business right? Then lets do it!
Put nice big windows on the buildings....set up hourly tours..make it a tourist attraction so we all have something to do with our families on the weekends.
Line up...see what is on the plate of millions of people....
it's NOT a hamburger...
It's NOT a Sloppy Joe..
It's NOT a sirloin...
IT'S A DEAD COW THAT WAS SLAUGHTERED BRUTALLY!
PERIOD!
"If slaughterhouses had windows NOBODY would eat meat"
Again, this is MY blog...no matter what anybody says to me I will NEVER change my mind on how I feel about the senseless cruelty to poor innocent animals. We have people cry and lose sleep when their dog or cat is suffering, but LOVE a 'good steak' or 'juicy hamburger'...
What have we been taught and what are we teaching our children??
SO sad.....

STOP trying to be Ryan Lee!
THIS THREAD IS GEARED TO FIT PROS WHO ARE ABUSING THEIR TRUSTED FRIENDS IN THE INDUSTRY
First....if your a fit pro and you don't like what I have to say here..TOUGH SHIT!
Let's move on! :)
So your new to the fit pro business or have been around for awhile and now are trying the online marketing end of the business.
Buckle up!
This is long, this is 'in your face' and it's what I see going on in our wonderful industry...
"If there is one thing you don't want to do, it is abuse and disrespect your list"..
You have heard that before, right?
Then why the hell isn't anybody listening?
Some of you are new to the fitness business and you see where Ryan Lee is..you see where
Jim Labadie is & THEN you have the balls to TRY to do what they are doing RIGHT AWAY and abuse, abuse, abuse us -your list.
The ridiculous claims of money making and emails received...
Bullshit!
Save it!
If for ONE SECOND you think you are going to be Ryan Lee or Jim Labadie at the blink of an eye you are freaking crazy!
How many of you have emailed ME or text me (after I trusted you with my cell #) asking to be an affiliate? You haven't said POO to me in months then all of a sudden you have this product that is going to take over the world and you want ME to promote it?
My Ass!
TIME OUT...remember what I said...If you don't like what I have to say I can care less...now let's move on....
Do I personally want to be an Internet marketer? Do I want to sell tons of products online and not have the responsibilities of owning a fitness center one day? Hell yeah..BUT IT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN BY BUYING ONE FREAKING PRODUCT or attending a seminar over a weekend.
For all you young guys & gals.....listen to me...Listen to Ryan...
Without putting a few years in you WILL NOT be an overnight success online. I don't care about the smoke being blown up your ass that it CAN happen..it won't! There is so much involved it is unbelievable.
Master your domain.....master your territory in the area you live....GROW..get known...get clients...get respect...
My daughter was in from Philly for the weekend and she said, 'Hanging out with you is like hanging with a rock star'...
Why?
Because I put my time in and I KNOW what works and I promote what works and I promote HONESTY....H O N E S T Y.
If I say it..it is true..PERIOD. If I tell you a reporter in Hollywood has ask me to be her Health & Fitness editor for her new online magazine..it is true. If I tell you I email back and forth with a World Poker champion who is working out to my DVDs..it is true. If I tell you I talk to an American Idol who 'just missed' the final 12...it is true...
What I read in emails coming at me about these great products....
Absolutely ridiculous...come one...do some of you really take us for being that ignorant?
An email from someone claiming to 'only have 5 left!' of a digital product? What the heck!??!?
Now..I know what you are thinking....
"This is Barry's online death sentence"
'Barry will never be able to JV with anyone here.'
'He is crazy!'
'He should keep his mouth shut because he will not be able to get affiliates'..
HAHAHA...
The thing is.....
I don't care....
We all know how things work..
1) You need to know someone...
2) You have to have a big list to be considered to have your product picked up by them.
Listen..I did not raise my family starting at the tender age of 18 by relying on others. When my young girlfriend (now wife) told me she was pregnant, I said in confidence..'Don't worry. I will take care of us'
For 25 years I have NEVER relied on anyone so it does NOT bother me what others think about this thread. It is reality and after speaking to SEVERAL big names, they feel the same - TRUST ME.
You know who you are.....experienced fit pros who are trying Internet marketing and the new/young guys to the industry... Step back...take a look at what you are doing.
Purchase your products to learn how to be an online marketer, but CHILL OUT....stop trying to do it all at once. Stop sending us emails everyday with blatant lies and bullshit results. We are not ignorant to how the business is supposed to be, so we are pretty good at catching your crap.
You will NOT be Ryan Lee overnight. He IS the master and from what I remember, 'Grasshopper' NEVER kicked Master Po's ass. (if he did I missed it :) )
Take charge of your business locally and dabble in the online stuff. It may happen one day, but it is NOT going to happen from one purchase or one weekend.
So..there ya have it..I am both pissed at some of you at the same time helping you out. I highly suggest....
You first....build your business locally: FIND YOUR NICHE!
Online later...attend seminars, buy some products and study on the side..it will all come together eventually, but NOT overnight.
Respect your fellow fit pros - PERIOD.
In good health,
Barry
PS - I did not name names, but that doesn't mean it won't happen one day ;)

Prince Fielder - Vegetarian
I’m feeling happy!
This morning while logging onto my computer, I noticed an article on my Yahoo home page that told the story of Prince Fielder going vegetarian. Here is the link Prince Fielder – Vegetarian.
This is the second time in two weeks that professional athletes have made the news due to their vegetarian or vegan lifestyles and I really appreciate the attention. I know for a fact that a vegan diet can sustain a strong, athletic and muscular man because I live it but the average person scoffs at this notion. In fact people are already poking fun at Prince Fielder for his decision.
What a shame.
Oh, what I would give for some more open minds out there among the masses. In case you are one of the one’s who thinks it’s impossible for the body to function well without meat, here is a partial list of vegetarian athletes:
Ruth Heidrich, Three-Time Ironman, Debbie Lawrence, 5k Record Holder, Jim Kaat, Baseball Player, Tony Larussa, Baseball Manager, Hank Aaron, Baseball PlayerBill Pearl, Bodybuilder, Marv Levey, Buffalo Bills Coach, Robert Parnish, Center (Bulls)Joe Namath, Football Player, Lawrence Phillips, Football Player (49ers), Brendan Brazier, Ironman Triathlete, Sally Eastall, Marathon Runner, Andreas Cahling, Mr. International Bodybuilder, Carl Lewis, Olympic Track Star, Edwin Moses, Olympic Champion, Leroy Burrell, Olympic Champion, Murray Rose, Olympic SwimmerPat Reeves, Power Lifter, Bill Manetti, Powerlifting Champion, Ed Templeton, Pro Skateboarder, Mike Manzoori, Pro Skateboarder, Brian Anderson, Pro SkateboarderJamie Thomas, Pro Skateboarder, Laban Pheidas, Proskater, Steve Berra, ProskaterAnastasia Ashley, Surfer, Martina Navratilova, Tennis Player, Bille Jean King, Tennis Champion, Peter Burwash, Tennis Champion, John Salley, Toronto Raptors, Lucy Stephens, Tri-athlete, Stan Price, World Record Bench Press, Killer Kowalski, Wrestler
Don't forget UFC fighter Mac Danzig. Tell him he can't be a vegan and perform at his best.
Trust me when I tell you that the vegetarian/vegan lifestyle is one that is very rewarding in terms of health and physical performance. Your body wants this type of clean fuel and will respond very happily when it is received.
People switch to a vegetarian lifestyle for many different reasons. My switch came suddenly when I learned about the horrific treatment that these animals endure. Ironically, this is the same reason that Prince Fielder gives. I can assure you if you would have told me that I would be a vegan one day I would have laughed. You don’t always search these things out; sometimes they just happen, so if nothing else, always keep an open mind. You never know when it might be your turn.
In an effort to help people understand, I have written a few articles about what a vegetarian lifestyle REALLY is.
Go Vegetarian - It's not as hard as you think
Being Vegan - Getting by in a non-vegan world
Becoming Vegetarian - Making a Case for the Vegetarian Lifestyle
Think about it….what is WRONG with choosing to do your part in not aiding in the horrific treatment of animals at the same time eating wholesome and nutrient rich foods to improve our overall health?

It's ALL about the Core!
Every athlete wants to get the most out of his or her training and reach their full athletic potential. One of the most important factors in maximizing athletic performance is core strength. An athlete with a strong core is a strong athlete; it's that simple.
Let me explain to you just what the core is and why core strength is so very important for any athlete. The core is comprised of nearly 30 different muscles that basically wrap around your body in the area between your hips and ribcage. There are a couple ways to think about this in easy terms. First of all think of your body in two halves, the lower half and the upper half. The core area is between the two and can be thought of as a 'bridge' that connects them. In order for the upper and lower body to work together requires that connection. Another visual is to think of the rebar in a foundation. Imagine that your core area is just like the foundation of a house. When not trained, it is a foundation without its rebar and one likely to weaken and cause problems, while a conditioned core is a strong and sturdy foundation with rebar.
Basically, the core is fundamental to all body movement. Whether you realize it or not, you hardly make a movement without engaging your core whether it be walking up the stairs or bending down to pick something up. Your core is involved, providing you with balance and stability. The strength, or weakness, or your core will dictate how easy or difficult these movements are.
So, what does this have to do with your athletic performance? Absolutely everything. When you are moving through your sport of choice you are using your body in its most functional state, in other words, as a whole. You are using your lower body and your upper body together; you're jumping, throwing, twisting, hitting, running, the list goes on and on. Your core is the basis for all of this movement and once again the strength or weakness of that core will dictate the ease in which you move on the field or court. Athletes are also very often in unstable environments, like landing on one foot or throwing or hitting from an awkward position. I cannot honestly think of a sport where this stability and balance does not come into play. Your balance comes from your core; strong core equals good balance.
Here are some examples: Think of the volleyball player jumping and spiking. The spike is literally being performed in mid air; can a situation be less stable? The power for that spike must come from the core!
Think of the shortstop that runs to catch a grounder and then must jump, twist and throw all at the same time, again, ALL core!
Think of the tennis player who runs across the court and then smashes a return to the opposite side, ALL core!
I could go on and on with every single sport and just about every position but hopefully you get the idea. If you do not train for core strength and balance you will never realize your full potential. More and more athletes are training this way and if you ignore this vital aspect of athletic training you will be out-played.
Fortunately, core training is not difficult or time consuming and it does not require expensive equipment. It has been my experience that athletes are downright thrilled to be doing something other than 'lifting' anyway. Core training is innovative, challenging and creative; heck, it's fun! Of course when the athletes and coaches see the results, which come quickly with this type of training, the excitement really builds.
If I sound passionate about Core Training, I am. I see the results first hand every day. Hundreds of athletes that I have trained enjoy incredible results and it is very exciting. If your routine does not involve core training, well, that needs to change. Improve your core and improve your game, guaranteed.

"Dear Barry,
I am 15 and have been on a team for 2 years. The coach never played me because I couldn't react quickly or jump very high. This past summer I attended the Penn volleyball camps. That is where I saw you speak and do the drills. I bought your DVD just thinking I'd give it a shot. But it really works! Jumping 5 inches higher and reacting much quicker I tried out and made the JV volleyball team. Now I am a starter in every game.
Thank you Barry.
